Most of us have been there before—you’re driving along and you hear a strange noise coming from your car.

You try to ignore it, but it’s getting louder and more persistent. Finally, you give in and take your car to the mechanic, only to find out that the noise was caused by a serious problem that could have cost you a lot of money to fix.

So, what are some of the most common car noises that you shouldn’t ignore? Keep reading to find out.

    1. A Squealing Noise When You Start Your Car

If you hear a squealing noise when you first start your car in the morning, it’s likely an indication that your serpentine belt needs to be replaced.

The serpentine belt is responsible for driving all of the accessories on your engine, such as the water pump, power steering, and alternator.

If it breaks while you’re driving, it can cause serious damage to your engine—so it’s best to get it replaced as soon as possible if you think it might be going bad.

    2. A Hissing Noise Under the Hood

If you hear a hissing noise emanating from under your car’s hood, there’s a good chance that your radiator is leaking coolant.

This is a serious problem because if left unchecked, it can cause your engine to overheat—and no one wants that. Be sure to take your car to a trusted Victoria BC mechanic right away if you hear this noise so they can diagnose and fix the problem before it causes any further damage.

    3. A Clicking Noise When You Turn

If you hear a clicking noise every time you turn the wheel, it means that there’s something wrong with your CV joint.

The CV joint is what connects your car’s axle to the wheel hub—so if it’s damaged or broken, it can cause all sorts of problems.

Fortunately, this is usually an easy fix—but it’s important to get it checked out by a professional as soon as possible so they can make the necessary repairs.

    4. A Grinding Noise When You Brake

If you notice a grinding noise every time you hit the brakes, chances are there’s something wrong with your brake pads or rotors.

Both brake pads and rotors wear down over time and will eventually need to be replaced—but if they’re not properly taken care of, they can cause expensive problems down the road.

Be sure to get them inspected by a qualified mechanic at least once a year so they can let you know if they need to be replaced—better yet, get them replaced before they start making noise.

    5. A Knocking Noise When You Accelerate

finally, if you notice a knocking noise when you step on the gas pedal, there could be something wrong with your engine mounts.

Engine mounts are designed to keep your engine in place while you’re driving — so if they’re damaged or broken, it can cause all sorts of problems.

Fortunately, this is usually an easy fix — but again, it’s important to get it checked out by a professional as soon as possible so they can make the necessary repairs before any further damage is done.

    Conclusion

If you notice any strange noises coming from your car, don’t ignore them. Many times, these noises are indicative of serious problems that need to be fixed right away by a qualified mechanic before they cause any further damage.

So, next time you hear something strange coming from under the hood or from underneath your car, don’t hesitate to take it into the shop — it could end up saving you a lot of money in the long run.
